Zombie Apocalypse: CDC Offers Tips For Doomsday Preparation

With all the talk about tomorrow, May 21, being Doomsday, the good doctors at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have offered an end-times preparedness information packet called “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse.” Yes, you read right: Zombie Apocalypse.

First things first. What, exactly, is a zombie? According to the CDC (and other resources) a zombie is “a corpse mysteriously reanimated to serve the undead.” The concept has its origins in voodoo.

While the good doctors at the CDC can’t explain why zombies like to eat people, especially their brains, they do tell us how we can prepare for a Zombie Apocalypse.

The author of the discourse is Rear Admiral Ali S. Khan, MD, MPH, Assistant Surgeon General and Director, Office of Public Health Preparedness Response. In a statement Rear Admiral Khan said, “You may laugh now, but when it happens, you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.”

The Zombie Apocalypse survival kit is available through the CDC and gives details of how to prepare for a Zombie emergency – or any other emergency for that matter. It includes the theories behind zombies, the emergency kit, and the emergency plan.

So will a  zombie takeover happen on the May 21st Doomsday event? Well, it wouldn’t be the first time some unexplained phenomena occurred. Besides, if Americans are prepared for the zombie takeover – even though it probably won’t happen tomorrow – they will be prepared for other emergencies as well. Such is the hope of the CDC anyway.
