Iomega has just announced the Mac Companion Hard Drive in 2TB and 3TB flavors. While they are also compatible with other devices, they were designed with Apple computers in mind. They offer a high powered charging port for Apple peripherals, USB 2.0 and Firewire 800 ports, and a set of LEDs that show drive capacity as a glance.
The pioneering high-powered USB charging port is compatible with iPads, iPhones and iPods. There are no other major branded external HFS+ Mac desktop hard drives on the market today that offer a high powered Apple device charging port and a two-port USB 2.0 hub. The Iomega Mac Companion Hard Drive is the first of its kind.
The handy external capacity gauge uses four LEDs to display how much room is left on the hard drive. Four white lit LEDs mean less than 20% capacity is in use. At the other end of the spectrum, one white LED means 60%-80% capacity is in use and one red LED means more than 80% capacity is in use.
The Iomega Mac Companion Hard Drive comes bundled with a number of powerful software solutions bundled on the drive itself, including simple and online backup solutions and a free 12-month internet security package for safe surfing.
The 2TB model is available for $195.00 and the 3TB model runs $295.00 (U.S. suggested retail.) Both models include a three-year warranty with registration.
