Blue Bell Expands Recall: Pulling All Products Due To Listeria Concerns

Blue Bell Creameries has expanded its nationwide recall to include all their products after more containers were found to be tainted with Listeria.

The company issued a video statement a short time ago saying it is voluntarily recalling all their products after finding that 2 containers of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream tested positive for listeriosis.

In the video, CEO Paul Kruse issued an apology for this situation, saying : “We are heartbroken over this situation, and apologize to all of our loyal Blue Bell fans and customers.”

The recall now includes all ice creams, sherbets, frozen yogurts and frozen snacks ; the products were made at three locations: the company’s Brenham plant, its facility in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and a facility in Alabama.

According to the Texas-based company, they “can’t say with certainty” how the products became contaminated at this time and are doing this as a precautionary measure.

Kruse also said in a written statement that the company is working to resolve the issue and determine how it happened.

This is the 3rd time the company has issued a recall on its ice cream products due to listeria contamination since March of this year; 3 people died  and 2 became ill during the initial recall in Kansas.

According to the CDC, listeria, which causes food poisoning in individuals,  can be potentially deadly to the very young, the elderly, those with a compromised immune system and pregnant women.

If you have any unopened Blue Bell products you can return them to the store for a full refund.

If you have any that are opened, the CDC recommends that you close and dispose of them and wash down all surfaces with warm soap and water.

Listeria symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and cramping. If you have any Blue Bell products and experience these symptoms, the FDA recommends that you see a doctor immediately.

Anyone who is concerned can contact the FDA at  http://www.fda.gov, call Blue Bell at  1-866-608-3940 Monday – Friday 9 A.M. –  9 P.M., Saturday 11 A.m. – 3 P.m.  EST or go to bluebell.com.
