A recently renamed app called eGifter allows users to invite their Facebook friends to chip-in on a gift.
The funds are pooled on a gift card that the receiver can use for purchases.
The eGifter app, which until last month was called MyGiftWand, is available for both iOS and Android devices. It has received a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on the Google Play store, and 4+ on iTunes so far.
This new offering, however, is quite a bit different than last year’s services.
By using the vast social network of Facebook, eGifts can be crowdfunded. What this means is that friends can join in and contribute small amounts of money to eGift cards, snowballing tiny contributions into larger gifts. Friends of friends that have never even met can now all chip in for that special someone. As new contributions come in, their invited friends are notified, thus keeping the contributions rolling .
According to the app’s developers at GroupGifting.com, “The program features exclusive offers from a dozen brands, with over one million dollars of special offers. Users also can purchase eGift cards from almost one-hundred other brands.”
This new amalgam of brick-and-mortar with eCommerce truly demonstrates the fact that we are one step closer to a fully digital wallet/pocketbook. One wonders, when will Santa stay at home and just send eGifts?
eGifter is available for free on both the Google Play Store, and iTunes.
