Downton Abbey Renewed for 5th Season – Season 4 Hits US In January

Season 4 of Downton Abbey just finished in Britain and the acclaimed show has been renewed for a fifth season.

Season 5 is expected to premiere in the UK 2014.

Here in the US, the 4th season of the beloved drama will premiere on BBC America in January.

The news of the show’s renewal was delivered today.

Downton Abbey follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the early decades of the 1900’s. Many events from the the time period, including the sinking of the Titanic, WW1,  and the Spanish influenza pandemic, are incorporated into the show.

Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available on Hulu Plus, which offers a free one week trial to new subscribers.

Seasons 1, 2 and 3 are available streaming on Amazon Instant Video and iTunes.  A wide range of retailers have the first three seasons available on DVD and Blu-ray. Downton Abbey is not available on Netflix.
