FreedomPop is continuing work aimed at catching up with FreedomPop phone back-orders, according to the company.
The bulk of the phones now on back-order were ordered by beta-testers in November.
Tony Miller, Head of Marketing and Communications for FreedomPop, told Consumer Press that the company may be caught up on orders soon.
“We’re shipping, but slower than expected, getting through ~750 per day on a back order of 4k still outstanding,” said Miller. “So we’ll probably be totally caught up by end of week (though with new orders still coming in it may be next week before we’re totally to date).”
Last week FreedomPop predicted that the shipping of the phones would be ramped up faster.
At least one shopper used FreedomPop’s Facebook page yesterday to announce that she had received an email saying her phone had shipped.
However, many more are complaining about the wait for their FreedomPop phones. One beta-tester, Rico Radiant Orchid, voiced his frustration thus: “43 days since i paid for my phone. 15 days since the ‘finishing’ email. No other communication. I wish you customer service was a baby so i could shake it.”
The FreedomPop phones that beta-testers are waiting for are refurbished HTC Evo 4Gs set up for use with FreedomPop’s free to low cost cell phone service.
FreedomPop’s free cell phone plan includes 200 minutes of talk time, up to 500 text messages, and 500MB of free 3G/4G data.
They also offer two low cost calling plans, a $7.99/month plan that includes 500 minutes of talk time, unlimited texting, and 500MB of data, and a $10.99/month plan that includes unlimited talk time, unlimited texts, and 500MB of data.
FreedomPop now offers a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) program as well. Only a handful of Sprint based phones are compatible at this time. More phones are expected to be added to the compatibility list soon.
