On June 1st, Gamestop will cease all trade-ins related to the PlayStation 2.
While remaining PS2 hardware, accessories, and games will still be sold at Gamestop, the video game retail will no longer accept any trade-ins from the system.
Here’s an official statement from Gamestop about the matters via Engadget:
We can confirm that as of June 1st we will no longer be accepting the PS2 console or its related product for trades. We know that the 12 year old system is a popular one and for many gamers, GameStop is the only place to find a great selection of its games. We will still offer a wide selection of the PS2 hardware, accessories and games in many of our stores and online for several months, based on remaining stock from trades. We are very excited about the upcoming PS4 and are making room in our stores for it and other new platforms expected this fall.
With more gaming consoles like the PS4 and the new Xbox system currently named “Durango” expected to launch this year, it was expected of Gamestop to drop support for the 13-year-old PS2, which was recently discontinued worldwide in January.
Gamers looking to trade-in or buy some Ps2 related products at Gamespot can do so before the deadline.
