For those of you unfamiliar with this product, Glass is internet-connected eye wear; basically a smartphone you wear.
Up until now Glass has only been available to select individuals through Google‘s Explorer program.
Explorers (testers) applied through various outlets ( Google I/O, #ifihadglass , referred by a friend). Once they were selected they purchased the eye wear ($1500) and provided Google with feedback.
Now, in an effort to get more diverse viewpoints an improve their product Google is having this one day sale where anyone can buy them.
Glass has taken some hits to its reputation in recent weeks over growing concerns about the device infringing on individuals’ privacy. Many worry Glass users can record or take pictures of people, as well as their personal information without being detected.
In an effort to bolster their image they recently partnered with eye glass giant Luxottica, to improve the look of Glass and make them a serious contender in the filed of smart eye wear.
Google is hoping this one day sale will help them to further connect with the public and restore their reputation.
Glass will go on sale this Tuesday, April 15 at 9 A.M. They are also offering free frames or sunglasses to those who purchase Glass that day.
