Apple and Best Buy are accepting iPhone 5 (and other smartphone) trade-ins.
Walmart will begin accepting smartphone trade-ins starting Sept. 21.
All three stores exchange the phones for credit to purchase a new phone… with a new contract, of course. Apple provides up to $280 credit for a used iPhone in top notch condition.
But there are other options for trading in a used iPhone.
As Lauren Patzer PowerOn provides up to a $400 credit to Apple Stores in exchange for a used iPhone.
Amazon offers as much as $441 on an Amazon gift card for an AT&T 64GB iPhone 5.
If cash is the goal, prices for used iPhone 5’s that have sold in eBay auctions in the last 24 hours range from $300 to $500.
NextWorth is offering up to $410 for used iPhones. Traders can get paid through PayPal, by check, or by taking the phone to a participating Target store and trading it in for a Target gift card.
Gazelle is offering up to $350 for used iPhone 5s. When selling an item to Gazelle, traders are also entered into a sweepstakes for $1 million.
RadioShack also pays cash at their stores. No shipping of the phone required – but they don’t pay as much as some of these others. Their top price for an iPhone 5 is $250.
