iPhone 5 Trade In? You Might Come Out Ahead Getting Cash For It

Apple and Best Buy are accepting iPhone 5 (and other smartphone) trade-ins.

Walmart will begin accepting smartphone trade-ins starting Sept. 21.

All three stores exchange the phones for credit to purchase a new phone… with a new contract, of course. Apple provides up to $280 credit for a used iPhone in top notch condition.

But there are other options for trading in a used iPhone.

As Lauren Patzer PowerOn provides up to a $400 credit to Apple Stores in exchange for a used iPhone.

Amazon offers as much as $441 on an Amazon gift card for an AT&T 64GB iPhone 5.

If cash is the goal, prices for used iPhone 5’s that have sold in eBay auctions in the last 24 hours range from $300 to $500.

NextWorth is offering up to $410 for used iPhones. Traders can get paid through PayPal, by check, or by taking the phone to a participating Target store and trading it in for a Target gift card.

Gazelle is offering up to $350 for used iPhone 5s. When selling an item to Gazelle, traders are also entered into a sweepstakes for $1 million.

RadioShack also pays cash at their stores. No shipping of the phone required – but they don’t pay as much as some of these others. Their top price for an iPhone 5 is $250.
