J.K. Rowling has conjured up a Harry Potter spin-off movie series!
Based on one of the textbooks featured in the wildly successful Harry Potter books and films, the first movie in the series is titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
J.K. Rowling will write the script for the movie which follows the adventures of the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Newt Scamander. While the story takes place in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, it is not a prequel or sequel. It takes place 70 years before the events in the Harry Potter books.
Many of the characters in the original book series will not have been born yet during the time this film is set. It is the first in a series of films about the adventures of Newt Scamander.
J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books series was first started in June 1997 with the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Since then the seven books in the series have sold over 400 million copies worldwide, the films based on the books have become the highest-grossing film series of all time, and tie-in merchandise has made the Harry Potter brand worth more than $15 billion.
The series has been so popular, Universal Studios opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed “island” in their Islands of Adventure them park in Orlando, Florida.
While J.K. Rowling has not announced writing a novelization of the film, she has, in fact, already written the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook. It was written along with Quidditch Through the Ages and published in March 2001 to support the Comic Relief charity.
A third small volume, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, was published in December 2008 for The Children’s High Level Group charity.
J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros have not announced a release date for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film yet.
