James Bond At The Oscars!

James Bond At The Oscars!

James Bond will be at the Oscars this year!

Skyfall has raked in over a billion dollars at the box office and may even win a few nominations from the Academy. But the big news is actually the 50th anniversary tribute at the Oscar ceremony and all the speculation surrounding it.

Six men have portrayed the secret agent over the 50 year run at the cinema and they are all physically able to be at the ceremony.

Will the one-time Bond, George Lazenby show up?

What about the retired and very reclusive Sean Connery, now 81 and very uninterested in celebrity?

It remains to be seen what the Academy can arrange. Even a pre-taped appearance by Connery would be a coup as he didn’t appear in the recent anniversary documentary.

While James Bond will be at the Oscars, it isn’t certain that the Academy will return the favor to 007 with an award or even a nomination! In 23 films, the series has only taken home two Oscars, one for visual effects (Thunderball, 1965) and another for sound effects (Goldfinger, 1964). The series was nominated several times for best original song, including the 1973 classic Live and Let Die from the movie of the same name, The Look Of Love (Casino Royale, 1967), the haunting Nobody Does It Better (The Spy Who Loved Me, 1977), and For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

Many feel Adele’s version of the Skyfall original song will be an Oscar contender, and there are a few rumors that the billion dollar movie will receive one or two more nominations. But even if Skyfall doesn’t win any awards, James Bond fans are sure to be winners at the Oscars this year with the 50th anniversary tribute to the longest running film franchise in history.

Will the 007 tribute get you to tune in on Oscar night? Let me know in the comments below!
