CBS has a new hour-long drama series airing some time in 2015, ‘Supergirl’. While details are still being sorted out, it’s just been announced that actress, Melissa Benoist (Whiplash, Glee), will be the lead as Supergirl.
The show centers on Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, who escaped from Krypton. She’s been hiding her superpowers her whole life, while on Earth. Now, 24, she’s decided to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the heroine she’s always wanted to be.
CBS chair Nina Tassler expressed her feelings of the project, “She embodied so many of the characteristics of classic female heroines on the network… We fell in love with the pitch.” Tassler told reporters, “We’re looking for quality, charisma. She’s got to be an everywoman.”
I’m really looking forward to this new series. Melissa was great in ‘Whiplash’, although she didn’t have much screen time. She has a huge following on Glee, so a fan base for her is already built in.
More information will flood the internet as we get more details about the series from CBS. We’ll keep you posted as they come.
