Thomasville, Georgia, based bakery Flowers Foods has issued a recall on a specific lot of its Nature’s Own brand Butterbread. In a statement released by Flowers Foods, they said they were recalling the bread and pulling it from store shelves out of an abundance of caution.
According to the company, the loaves may contain small flakes of aluminum. No injuries have been reported, and the company believes that only a small number of loaves may be contaminated by the aluminum flakes.
Natures Own Butterbread comes in 20 ounce packages. The loaves being recalled were sent to stores in Florida and Georgia.
In Florida counties affected are: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwannee, Union, and Volusia.
In Georgia, the affected counties are: Atkinson, Bacon, Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Glynn, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Ware, and Wayne.
The recalled loaves are stamped on the front with the best-by date 12/07/2011 and have the UPC code 72250-04919. Consumers affected by the recall are being asked to call Flowers Foods at 1-866-245-8921 or contact them through their website at www.naturesownbread.com.
Just about a week ago, Ocean Spray Craisins were recalled due to the possibility of contamination by small metal fragments. The recalls and companies are not connected.
