New Power Rangers Movie Gets Release Date

Back in May, Lionsgate announced that a movie reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was on the way, and now the anticipation can officially begin, as a release date has been set.

Lionsgate is expecting the Power Rangers reboot to become a big summer blockbuster, giving it a release date of July 22, 2016.  That is the same weekend as King Arthur will be released, and the same month as Independence Day 2, which should create a great deal of competition at the box office for the Power Rangers.

Roberto Orci will be the executive producer of the movie, while Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller are responsible for writing the screenplay.  Production is likely to begin early next year, meaning announcements on the director and cast of the movie should come before the end of the year.

The official Power Rangers Movie synopsis calls the movie “a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.”
