New Waterproof Video Camera Is Just $60, Records Hi-Def

A new waterproof HD video camera was launched today by Vivitar, one of the leading brands of digital cameras and photographic accessories for 70+ years. The 690 HD is waterproof, and includes a built-in microphone, speaker, and a SD memory card slot for recording the video.  The specially designed case for the Flip-like camcorder can be used up to ten feet under water.

The Vivitar 690 HD waterproof camera has a 4x digital zoom capacity and records 720p (25fps), VGA (30fps) and QVGA (30fps) video.  The SD memory card allows recording up to 32GB of data on a single SD card – at six minutes per GB for 720p, which means over three hours of high definition video on a single 32GB card and even more at the lower resolutions.  The built-in two-inch LCD panel displays both live and recorded video at 1280×720 (HD), 640×480 (VGA) and 320×240 (QVGA).  It includes a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery and 8MB SDR (Buffer). There is an included AV cable to connect the camera to a television, but there is no HDMI interface available.

Marketed to every level of photographic enthusiast from novice to professional, the waterproof video camera has a suggested retail price of $59.99 MSRP.  The 690 HD is available at Target, Staples, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, K-Mart and many other major retailers.
