At the painfully early time of 5:30am PT this morning, The Academy Awards announced their nominees live online. If you’re smart, you were sleeping and waited for a post like this to watch the video at a more humane time.
While there weren’t many surprises for the bigger movies that had a lot of buzz around them, some snubs couldn’t be ignored.
The Lego Movie was nominated for best original song, Everything Is Awesome. When the time came around to account Best Animated Film, however, everything wasn’t awesome.
The Lego Movie didn’t make the cut for Best Animated Film, even though it was a huge success in the box office and was greatly received.
Another surprise snub was Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler. He did an amazing job as the lead, so it’s hard to imagine why he didn’t nab a nomination.
A surprise, on the other hand, was the Oscar nomination for Bradley Cooper in American Sniper. After being ignored at the Golden Globes, this will be his third nomination in a row.
You can watch the video of the nomination announcements below, in two parts.
The Academy Awards will air Sunday, February 22nd. Can’t wait!
