iPhone 4

In a positive sign for future sales of the iPhone 4, Apple announced today that they took 600,000 pre-orders for their next generation iPhone yesterday.  They also issued a statement (below) apologizing to customers that were turned away, or gave up, while waiting to pre-order the phone.

The iPhone 4 is scheduled to be released this morning, and it’s expected that lines will be forming in front of Apple stores before daybreak. AT&T has said they are taking reservations. The phone will also be available in limited quantities at some Walmarts, Best Buys, and Radio Shacks.

 Statement From Apple:

Yesterday, Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.
