Moviegoers this past weekend had a big say in the number of movies that made it into the top 10. The weekend of October 8th saw the top 3 grossing movies from the previous week drop 3 spots as the Real Steel became the biggest winner of the weekend on its opening weekend. According to Boxofficemojo.com, Real Steel collected a total of $27,300,000 from a total of 3,440 theatres nationwide.
The new movie, which is produced by Dreamworks and distributed by Disney’s Touchstone Pictures, received the strongest opening weekend for a boxing themed movie.
The Number 2 spot was occupied by a new comer, the Ides of March from Sony Pictures taking home $10,4 million in its opening weekend. Dolphin Tale dropped 3 spots to number 3, taking in just over $9 million. Brad Pitt’s new movie, Money ball dropped to number 4 this weekend with over $7,500,000, while 50/50 earned $5,500,000. The inspirational Courage also dropped two spots but still earned a healthy $4,6 million and its only showing in 1,161 theatres nationwide. Lion King 3D which has enjoyed a great showing this summer still also earned a good audfience at number 7, while Dream House came in at number 8. What’s Your Number from Fox at 9 and Abduction from Lion Gate closed the top 10 movie list.
