Roku’s New Streaming Stick to Compete With Google Chromecast

Roku’s New Streaming Stick to Compete With Google Chromecast

Roku has announced an updated version of its Roku Streaming Stick, which will debut in April.

Similar to Google’s Chromecast, the Roku Streaming Stick is a device approximately the size of a USB flash drive.

The device will plug into any TV with an HDMI port, and gives the user access to stream from all of Roku’s over 1200 channels–including Netflix, Youtube, Showtime Anytime, and many other major services.

Included with the stick is a remote control to access the interface, and to use shortcuts to movies, TV shows, the Roku Channel Store, Roku Search and other services.  Mobile users can use the free Roku app, available in Android and iOS,  to browse and stream channels.

According to Jim Funk, Roku’s senior vice president of product management,  “Consumers want a ton of entertainment, an easy way to search for movies and TV shows, and options to control the experience with a remote or mobile device. This new Roku Streaming Stick brings all that and more – and in a tiny form factor.”

The updated Roku Streaming Stick is currently available for pre-order at online retailers like Amazon.com, BestBuy.com and Walmart.com at a suggested U.S. retail price of $49.99.  It will be available in stores and ship to consumers in April.

Will you try out the new Roku Streaming Stick?  How do you feel about it’s retail price, compared to the Google Chromecast at $35?  Let us know in the comments.
