Sprint today announced that its version of the iPhone 4 is now available for pre-order. Hot off the heels of Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 4S on October 4th, the 3rd largest mobile carrier will now join Verizon and AT&T in offering the iPhone 4.

Customers can pre-order an 8GB model of the iPhone that is now available on Sprint’s website while they can also choose between black and white colors of the smartphone handset. In the meantime, the carrier awaits the eminent release of the 4S and so the pre-order is offered “while supplies last”.

Earlier this week, the Cupertino-based Apple announced the release of the iPhone 4S which while it looks identical to the iPhone4, has a host of new innovative features internally including an 8MP camera, and a dual core A5 processor.

The new iPhone 4S will start at $199 when it becomes available for pre-order and is slated for an October 14 release.
With the announcement of the iPhone 4S, Apple also brought down prices of previous iterations of the iPhone including a new, improved price for the iPhone 4, starting at $99 on a 2 year contract. The iPhone 3GS will be free on a similar 2 year contract but will only be available from AT&T. Although the model that Sprint has is available for pre-order, it is a lower 8GB model and that might explain why the carrier has put it up for pre-order when other iPhone 4 models line many Apple store shelves.

Aside from Sprint, Verizon and AT&T will also be shipping the new iPhone 4 model, although AT&T has not provided any information on availability or shipping dates.
