Dancing With The Stars 2011: Has DWTS ‘Jumped The Shark’ With New Cast?

Pitting Sonny and Cher’s famous child Chaz against the legal critic Nancy Grace from Headline News is pretty much capping both ends of the spectrum for ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Chaz Bono’s transgender status is a first for the reality show and possibly the first transgender person to star on a network show. Nancy Grace has a decidedly conservative bend by comparison, but has been the center of her own controversies involving her legal analysis show as well as some of the cases she tried while a prosecuting attorney in Georgia. Controversial stars usually help the show’s ratings.

We reported back in July that there was a push for bigger, more current, more famous stars. Is this cast the result?

Reality show, TV and movie stars fill in many of the other spots in the Dancing With The Stars cast this season – Ricki Lake (author/talk show host), Rob Kardashian (reality show), David Arquette (Scream movie star and producer), Kristin Cavallari (reality TV star of The Hills and Laguna Beach), J.R. Martinez (All My Children star and former U.S. Army soldier), Elisabetta Canalis (Leverage! TV show star), Chynna Phillips (singer and Bridesmaid cameo) and Carson Kressley (reality shows Queer Eye, How To Look Good Naked, and Carson Nation).

Sports stars take the last spots with Ron Artest of Los Angeles Lakers fame and Hope Solo, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team goal keeper.
